Benasque square

Benasque square
Picture of the town hall square of Benasque(Pyrenees / Spain)
Date: Sep-2004
Camera: Minolta Dimage-XT
Comments: The village of Benasque is the historical capital city of the valley and it is 1140 m high. Benasque has kept the structure of its historical town, but without stoping its development as a touristic resort of the valley. In the past there was a castle but it was demolished in 1858. Right now you can still find some buildings with some architectonic value (Palace of the Counts of Ribagorza, Casa Faure, Casa Juste, etc.). The old tow is full of heraldic shields, of Renaissance rests and Gothic arcades. The church, devoted to San Marcial, is influenced by diferent styles, from Romanesque to Gothic.
