Information

Update May 15: The February 2019 V84SAA DXpedition to Brunei ended a few months ago and it is now the time to look back at the results.

With almost 60000 QSOs in the log we believe, V84SAA was a successful DXpedition, especially considering we are at the bottom of the solar cycle and also considering the complex logistics of hauling heavy equipment to a faraway destination such as Brunei.

We are the first DXpedition to make 6M EME (moon bounce) QSOs as well as the first to be approved to make contacts on the 60M band from Brunei. Some of you were lucky enough to be in the log on both of these bands.

But the 4500 160M QSOs and the 7500 80M QSOs are what made V84SAA a true low band focused DXpedition. Many hams around the world are still smiling for being able to have such QSOs in the logs.

Our QSL manager Tony (LZ1JZ) is now busy mailing the V84SAA QSL cards. By now you should have received yours or if not, it will arrive in the next few days.

Our DXpedition was self-funded and we did not request support from the major clubs or amateur radio organizations.

Icom USA provided us with some amazing radios (Icom IC-7610) and DX Engineering helped us with antenna equipment (40M Four Square) and HF Transmit Band Pass Filters and this helped on our success.

While the vast majority of the DXpedition expense was shouldered by the V84SAA team, people like yourself helped minimize some of the financial burden.

The V84SAA team is grateful for your GRACIOUS support! It is hams like yourself that make these DXpeditions happen.

We have posted some pictures on our website for you to enjoy ( http://www.v84saa.com/index.php/pictures/ ). You can also hear live from our team members about our Brunei adventure during the DX Forum at the Dayton Hamfest on Saturday May 18, 2019.

Thank you again for working and supporting the V84SAA DXpedition!

We hope to see you down the log from our next adventure.

K1LZ

Update Feb,27: Video available:

Update Feb,6: DXpedition website: www.v84saa.com

Update Jan,11: A CRATE WITH ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT FOR OUR DXPEDITION LEFT USA ON JANUARY 9, 2019 AND IT IS NOW IN ITS WAY TO BRUNEI. SHIPPING HEAVY EQUIPMENT SUCH US RADIOS AND AMPLIFIERS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE FOR THE TEAM IN BRUNEI.

Update Dec,29: Team members will begin to arrive February 4th, meet on February 5th, begin setting up the antennas and stations on February 6th, to be ready to begin operations at 0001 local time on February 7th (1601Z February 6th). The license is good through 2359 local time on February 18th (1559Z February 18). The team will focus on the low bands, but will also have a presence on the WARC-79 bands and higher bands. For antennas the team will use verticals on 160 and 80 meters and a four square on 40 meters located on the beach. Plans call for two Beverages: one on Europe and another towards North America. Topband Guru K1ZM, Jeff, a member of the V84SAA team, noted that the greyline at V8 sunset will match up great with the sunrise in North America starting in NorthEast Canada. So, all of North America will have some portion of common darkness with the V84SAA team.

Update Dec,28: On FT8 they will be using WSJT-X 2.0.0 with "a mix of straight FT8 and Fox/Hound mode". QSL via Club Log's OQRS, LoTW or via LZ1JZ.

A team consisting 9M6KOM, JT1CO, K1LZ, K1ZM, KK6ZM, KO9SCA, LZ1NK, PY5EG, RN5M, S55M & VK3FY will be QRV from Istana Pantai, Brunei as V84SAA during February 7-18, 2019. Special attention on low bands.
