Comments: Odense has 146,564 inhabitants, as at January 1, 2007, and is the capital of the island of Funen (Fyn). It is the seat of Odense Municipality and was the seat of Odense County until 1970, and Funen County from 1970 until January 1, 2007 when the county became part of Region Syddanmark. The famous author and poet Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense on April 2, 1805. A house in the old part of Odense has been turned into a museum with a large collection of his works and belongings. Also his childhood home is a museum.
