Desierto Carmelitano convent

Desierto Carmelitano convent
Picture of the Desierto Carmelitano convent taken in/from the valley of Las Batuecas (Salamanca)
Date: Sep-2008
Camera: Sony DSC-H5
Comments: At the entrance of the valley of Las Batuecas is the Desierto Carmelitano (Carmelite Desert) convetn, built in the late sixteenth century as a place of retreat and hermit life, with enlargements during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In and out of the monastery there are numerous hermitages scattered mostly by the surrounding cliffs, which ruins are preserved today.
