Information

Update May 6, 2024: 3G0YA went QRT at 1540z. Over 140K QSO in the log. Full log upload to LotW before December 2024.

Update May 5, 2024: The last 24 hours of operation have started. We have already made some preparations for taking down antennas after our next sunrise. However we’ll keep on operating as long as possible. In the last days 50 MHz was disappointing. Everybody around us made contacts, but we felt like in a Black Hole. We’ll keep on trying today.

Update May 5, 2024: We fixed the problem on the 160m/80m Inverted-L. It was an insulator which had stopped insulating!. We invested a little work, and for the last two days we are able to change bands between 60m/30m and 160m/80m even at night. We are offering the best times on the Low bands for CW, even though the bad noise situation makes it a great stress for our ears. Every CW contact will be precious, but please forgive us when evading to FT8 to give some relief to our ears.

Update May 3, 2024: Last night the 80m Inverted-L stopped working with High SWR. We tried many things but nothing helped. Will check again in daylight. Today all bands seem to be flat after the major flare. We’ll try to make the best out of it. Last but not least: “The end is near!”. We plan to stop operating and dismantle the station on Monday, 06-May-2024, after our sunrise at ~1400z.

Update May 2, 2024: Today we paused operation from ~1200z-2100z and went on a guided sightseeing and hiking trip to visit all the exciting Moais (stone sculptures) and learn about their history and the history of Easter Island. In the coming night we will operate 80m (not 160m) and 30m (not 60m).

Update May 1, 2024: Last night we caught a first 6m opening to JA and today we have the first few W6 (and XE2) in the 6m log, hoping for more openings. Tonight we’ll try 160m again, and 60m. We can’t solve the noise problem on the EU Beverage, leaving only very few chances for 160/CW contacts.

On Thursday, 02-May-2024, we will pause operation from ~1200z-2100z and go on a guided sightseeing and hiking trip to visit all the exciting Moais (stone sculptures) and learn about their history and the history of Easter Island. After return we’ll continue operating, using 80m and 30m in that other night.

P.S: We receive quite some E-Mails from people asking about missing contacts, wrong callsigns etc. Please note that we don’t have the time to fix any log problem while we are on the island. When in doubt of a certain contact, please work us again (or hope that the first contact was good and we can fix it at home).

Update April 28, 2024: The 160m noise on the EU Beverage continued all through the night. All QSOs in the night were decoded on the South-East Beverage. The JA Beverage has less noise, but signals were so weak that many contacts remained unfinished. In the next night we will operate the (combined 80/160m) antenna on 80m.

Update April 28, 2024: 160m has man-made noise today (S9) which was not there yesterday. We’ll watch it, but when it doesn’t stop, 160m will be a complete loss. The 6m antenna came down in a very heavy wind gust. A good thing, we just started 60m CW operation.

Update April 26, 2024: Today we want to extend the (80m) Inverted-L to work on 160m. And also the (30m) Vertical to work on 60m. Just after sunrise now it’s heavily raining and we’ll wait for better weather during the day. 160m and 60m operation should start around our sunset ~ 01:00z. We’ll play with CW and FT8 to find a good mixture. We receive quite some emails from people asking about missing contacts, wrong callsigns etc. Please note that we will have a look at those after the weekend!

Update April 24, 2024: We made our first contact with KB8QD on 18-Apr-2024, 16:18z, on 10m. Since then, in 126 hours of operation we added another 65500 contacts, of which 31200 contacts were hand-made in CW/SSB and 34300 contacts were computer-made on FT8. We open-mindedly followed the strategy to make as many CW/SSB contacts as possible, and fill-up the unused times with FT8 contacts – supervised by our operators, while doing station work, antenna setup, E-Mail communication, website update etc.

Update April 21, 2024: Everything is going well on Easter island. So far no antenna for 6, 60, 80, 160. Working on that on Monday/Tuesday.

Update April 18, 2024: They are already QRV.

Update April 15, 2024: They will use the callsign 3G0YA instead of the initially announced CD0Y.

Update April 13, 2024: Due to some local incompatibilities in Chile we probably have to change our callsign. Stay tuned here for more news. Sorry for any inconveniences.

DL6FBL, DK9IP and DM6EE will be QRV on 160 - 6m (CW, SSB, Digital) from Easter Island as CD0Y from April 18 to May 6, 2024.
