Information

Update January 12, 2025:  That's it, after days of preparation and testing, we are ready! The first broadcasts from Hiva Oa will begin tonight at 23:30 UTC.

Update January 12, 2025: Band plan

Update January 10, 2025: Team 2 arrived in Papeete after a long 22-hour journey from Paris. Tomorrow local (Jan 11th) final flight to Hiva Oa, then a 4.5-hour journey to reach QTH. Meanwhile, more antenna assembly has been taking place.

Update January 6, 2025: Advance team inform that work continues in the Marquesas with the installation of 13 antennas in a lush yet demanding environment. The dense vegetation makes the assembly challenging, requiring vigilance and precision to avoid any incidents. Despite the obstacles, the team moves forward with determination, ensuring the radio infrastructure for the expedition is set up as efficiently as possible.

Update January 5, 2025: Some ops may be wondering why a few of the TX7N team are already in Hiva Oa but not yet active on the air.  The logistics of such an expedition are complex: they are currently focused on setting up antennas and preparing the technical infrastructure to ensure everything is ready on time. TX7N radio transmissions will begin, if all goes as planned, on January 12, 2025, and will run through January 27, 2025. The second part of the team will arrive on January 11.

Update January 4, 2025: The TX7N team is hard at work early this morning, unpacking the long-awaited shipping crate. The equipment is being inspected and prepared for setup as we gear up for the start of operations. The energy and motivation are high, and the excitement is building!

Update January 3, 2025: After 23 hours of travelling from Paris via LAX, the TX7N advance team finally arrived Papeete, French Polynesia, and after another 4-hour flight they are now at Hiva Oa. This team will assemble some of the antennas ahead of the remaining team members. Official QRV date is January 12, 2025.

Update December 31, 2024: The adventure begins! The first crew of the TX7N expedition is ready to fly to the beautiful Marquis Islands.

Bags are packed, equipment is complete, and excitement is at its peak!

Stay tuned to follow this incredible adventure and go behind the scenes of this exceptional expedition.

See you very soon from the Marquises!

Update December 29, 2024: The first group will fly in 4 days time to the Marquesas with a crucial mission: Install the antennas. A huge amunt of work continues behind the scenes to transport and organize the 480kg of material that’s necessary.

Update December 21, 2024: EME station (TX7MAS) is ready for departure to the Marquesas. TX7MAS is the special call sign dedicated to Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication operations during the TX7N amateur radio expedition planned for the Marquesas Islands from January 12 to 27, 2025. This station was entirely designed and built for shipping. This will be a first in EME on 23cm since Hiva Oa and the Marquesas.

Update December 11, 2024: After 90 days and an incredible journey of nearly 20,000 km, our equipment has finally arrived at Tania’s Pension Kanahau in Hiva Oa, nestled in the beautiful Marquesas archipelago. Now, the next chapter begins: the first installation team, consisting of 5 skilled operators, is set to depart from Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport on January 2nd. The adventure continues, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead!

Update December 1, 2024: Our 700kg maritime crate is on board the ARANUI, a mixed cargo ship which is setting sail this weekend for Hiva Oa, arrival scheduled for Hiva Oa on December 16. We are preparing 17 radio bags that will travel with us by plane to carry transceivers, amplifiers, EME equipment, microphones/headsets, TOS/m, mains power supply, antenna analyzer, multimeters etc. The antenna installation team will arrive on January 3 in Hiva Oa, the other Operators will arrive on January 11.

Update November 18, 2024: After a 40-day sea voyage, our large equipment arrived in Papeete, Tahiti.

Customs clearance is underway, then the equipment will sail again to Hiva Oa for a 6-day journey.

Arrival expected in mid-December in the Marquesas.

We are currently finalizing our stations, transceivers, amplifiers, PC and EME station.

Arrival of the first team for the installation of the antennas on January 3rd.

Thanks to everyone who follows and supports us. Didier F6BCW

Update November 14, 2024: Last weekend, most of the TX7N team gathered for a final meeting before the big departure! It was the perfect moment to fine-tune all the details of this major expedition: receiving and distributing equipment generously provided by our sponsors, organizing luggage, finalizing flights, setting up antennas, updating IT systems, testing equipment, and even soldering PL connectors!

We also held a video conference with our on-site host, Tania, who is ensuring everything is ready for our arrival to make this expedition run as smoothly as possible.

A huge thank you to everyone supporting this adventure! We can’t wait to share our first live contacts from the Marquesas with you!

Update October 17, 2024: We are excited to announce that our shipping container has just departed and is now crossing the Atlantic, heading towards New York! This is a major milestone for our 2025 expedition to the Marquesas Islands. But the journey is far from over! We still have to pack our bags—about 700 kg of equipment that will be traveling with us by plane.  We’ll keep you updated on every step of this exceptional expedition that has generated so much excitement in the amateur radio community. Stay tuned!
