Information

Update March 28, 2023: At request of several 70cm EME'ers, we will be QRV on April 17th PM on 432 MHz with 2x 19 ele Hpol and 200W - QRV on HB9Q chat

Information from MMMonVHF: We are very glad to announce that we were invited to join and coordinate an EME activity planned by the Gibraltar Radio Amateur Society (GARS) in April 2023.

The EME activity will take place with the GARS call sign ZB2BU from locator IM76hc.

Planned location QTH should provide unobstructed takeoff from moonrise to moonset, in an area which should be as QRM-quiet as possible. However, Gibraltar is very crowded, and several civil and military radiocom systems are into operation in vicinity, which could nevertheless interfere with weak EME signals. In case of severe weather, we might have to suspend operation, as the station will be 'portable'.

Tentative operating schedule (all in UTC, which is Gibraltar DST time -2):

Friday April 14th : MR 02h40 - MS 12h30 (max elevation 29° @ 07h30)
Saturday April 15th: MR 03h20 - MS 13h45 (max elevation 34° @ 08h30)
Sunday April 16th : MR 03h55 - MS 14h55 (max elevation 40° @ 09h25)
Monday April 17th : MR 04h30 - MS 16h05 (max elevation 46° @ 10h10)

Frequencies will be announced on location, we will be QRV on N0UK EME chat through the EA8DBM chat with identity 'ZB2/ON7EQ'.

Modes of operation : JT65B and Q65A-60, ZB2BU will always run FIRST.

In JT65B we will always work with 'short messages' and - in order to save time - refrain from sending 73 (TX5 sequence). If you see us calling CQ again or replying to another station, consider that the QSO is succesfull, in doubt check with the EME chat, where we will give your report.

In Q65A-60, we do not work with 'short messages' but complete the QSO with RR73 (TX4 sequence).

Team: ZB2JK John, ZB2GI Kevin, multiple GARS members, ON5OO Jack and ON7EQ Jean-Jacques
