Update January 8, 2025: Svalbard: Failure is not an option BY LB5SH

Despite our previous unsuccessful attempt at setting foot on Svalbard, we haven't lost all hope and will try again in about two weeks. This time failure will not be an option.

With high hopes for good conditions, we'll be QRV on January 24th around 15:00 UTC, until QRT the 26th around 10:00 UTC.

Operators will be Kristoffer, JW/LB0VG, and yours truly, Stian, JW/LB5SH.

No contest activity planned.

We'll operate two radios around the clock during our stay, working SSB, CW, and FT8. For SSB we'll max out the legal limit of 1kW, CW and FT8 we'll top out around 3-400W to save our precious transistors.

As always – if you have difficulties working JW from your location, be it due to low power/QRP or the distance, I'm more than happy to help you out. Get in touch and we'll arrange a sked – any mode, any band.

Update September 13, 2024: Operation cancelled.

Stian/LB5SH and Kristoffer/LB0VG will be active as JW/LB5SH and JW/LB0VG from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, on September 13-15, 2024.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and FT8. The two operators will be using high power (~1kW) stations. They will also participate in the WAE DX SSB Contest as JW2T. Look for both operators (using their JW/homecallsigns) to be on ClubLog's Livestream.

QSL via their home callsigns, LoTW or ClubLog.

Their preliminary schedule (per QRZ.com):

* Friday 13th: Arriving Svalbard around 12:00 UTC. They will need to travel from the airport, check into hotel, and hook up their equipment first,  so they will probably not be QRV before 13:00 or 14:00 UTC. You'll catch them on SSB, CW, FT8 using personal calls.
* Saturday 14th: Starting 00:00 UTC they will work WAE DX SSB contest as JW2T. Activity outside the contest theu will be using personal callsigns (JW/LB5SH and JW/LB0VG)
* Sunday 15th: They will go QRT around 10:00 UTC to catch their ride back home to mainland Norway. If you hear them later that day it means they missed their flight.
