Information

Update October 14: He is now active from Svalbard. A few CW QSOs already made.

Update October 13: Almost ready to leave Oslo tomorrow. Radio and amplifier are in the pelican case and some wool socks added in the base camp bag. Operations from JW5E will not start before the 15th of October.

There are two new antennas to be tested further that are on a rotator on a 26m high tower:

JK rotating 40m dipole @ 30m
JK Navassa 6-10-12-15-17-20 @28m

Low bands are with dipoles. Activity per band will depend on the propagation and my mood ( [😝] ). It will be either CW or SSB.

See you from Longyearbyen

Update September 19: According to the geomagnetic indexes forecast for the next few days it seems that the K index will be in a range of 3 to 5 which reduces the chance of HF contacts to a very few QSOs only.

I have therefore decided to postpone my trip and will instead be QRV from Longyearbyen as JW/LB1QI from the 15/10/2020 to the 18/10/2020.

Hope to have better conditions mid-October.

73’s Erwann, LB1QI

Finally some good news as I was able to secure a trip to Svalbard in September 2020 between the 24/09/2020 and the 27/09/2020.

I will be hosted at JW5E Radio Club and therefore using their antennas from 160m to 6m. Please look for me on CW and SSB – no digital mode planned yet.

I will bring my own Yaesu FT857d and, if received in time, a JUMA PA1000 Amplifier.

QSL : LoTW, DIRECT or BURO. I will surely print a paper QSL card.

73’s Erwann, LB1QI
