Information

Update Nov,23: Info from Lance, W7GJ: Tonight on his second moonset of activity, Alex copied W7GJ, N3XX, W6TOD, K2ZD, G8BCG and UR0MC. I completed with him at 0142Z, and he peaked -25dB here. The Kp index was 1 and the Degradation was -3.4 dB.

He WILL be on for his moonrise later today, but will not be on the moonsets or moonrises over the weekend because of the CQ WW HF contest. The next time he will be QRV on his moonset will be Monday GMT.
Update Nov,22: Info from Lance, W7GJ: They got their amplifier working at around 400w and were able to install the homebrew 6 element yagi on a 5m' mast. During their first moonset at 0000Z today, they were able to complete with OH2BC for their first ever EME contact ;-) They said they plan to be QRV every moonrise and moonset until they leave.
Update Nov,21: Info from Lance, W7GJ: As of 1800Z, they are trying to fix the amplifier, which currently is broken. The 6m beam is assembled but not up yet. They hope to get the 6 element beam up on their 5m mast by moonset at 0000Z, but may only have 100w at the rig. We will know more at that time.
Update Nov,19: Info from Lance, W7GJ: I just heard from Alex and he doesn't think they will be able to be QRV on 6m EME until after local noon on Wednesday November 21. That means their first moonset will probably be at 0000Z Thursday November 22. Look for them to call first sequence JT65A on 50.193.
Update Nov,15: Info from Lance, W7GJ: FREQUENCY CHANGE!!! 5R8UM Will be operating on *50.193* instead of 50.202.
The exact location is LH46cq, and the base of their antenna is 75m east of the beach and 40' above it. Looks like a perfect location for a DXpedition!!!
Update Nov,14: Info from Lance, W7GJ: For the second time in the same number of months, an HF DXpedition is going to be trying 6m EME horizon-only when the moon is below about 17 degrees elevation. 5R8UM hopes to be QRV from November 19 to 29 during their moonsets, and November 26, 27, 28 and 29 on their moonrises (and maybe before that, if there is interest). They will have 500w output to a 6 element yagi.

On moonset, the antenna will look out over the ocean, so they may also have some very low ground gain lobe(s). On moonrise, their horizon is 3.5 degrees, so they will probably just have their main ground gain lobe, which will probably start around 6 or
7 degrees.

They will always TX FIRST sequence JT65A on 50.193, and will be using the W7GJ DXpedition Procedure

They will have intermittent access to the internet, and will plan to check into the ON4KST EME CHAT page with updates. Although many 6m stations ion Region 1 have already worked 5R on TEP, it remains quite rare in Regions 2 and 3. MNI MNI TNX to the 5R8UM team, and in particular to Alex K2BB/US4LNE, for taking the initiative to activate 5R on 6m EME ;-)
Update Nov,9: Callsign will be 5R8UM, not 5R8R as previously announced
Alex, K2BB and Pavel, UU0JR are looking for other ops to join them to form a team for a DXpedition to Nosy Be Island, AF-057, Madagascar during November 19-29, 2018. Plans are to QRV on 160-10m, CW/SSB/Digi. Participation in CQWW DX CW contest. 5R8R callsign is requested but not confirmed yet. Contact Alex if interested in joining: alex.k2bb@gmail.com
