Information

Update Feb,21: Video available

Update Nov,23: VQLog is now sponsoring this operation
Update Oct,26: 3C0L is over. Yuris and Kaspars are in Annobon airport waiting for their departure back to Malabo. Will see what’s up in Malabo, as they have missed their flight home which was scheduled for October 23rd
Update Oct,24: Team is still stuck on the island (flight from Annobon is postponed to “tomorrow”). The big vertical is packed already, so the team is not QRV anymore on lower bands. Good news: using the folding antenna and one TRX for the other bands..
Update Oct,23: Over 27,500 QSO’s in the log. Team will NOT activate 3C1L anymore this time. They will work from Annobon as 3C0L until they manage to leave the island. Expected QRT tomorrow (Tuesday), but all depends on flight out of Annobon
Update Oct,21: "We are stuck on the island", the 3C0L team reported on 19 October. Activity from Annobon is therefore extended until 23 October, when the two operators (YL2GM and YL3AIW) were expected to fly back home. Some 19,400 QSOs (83% CW) have been logged so far
Update Oct,15: 6000 QSOs in the log. Additional vertical antenna for 20, 30, 15m bands is erected and 2nd generator is rented. So 2 simultaneous signals 100W each are possible on the air during day time. However the 2nd generator also generates solid noise. Not on the bands, but in real life. Doors are kept open because of heat (no A/C).
Yuris asks: Do not call us if you don't hear us! Yesterday were focusing on 15m band. During the night they were active on 80m band, made 750 QSOs there. Had some minor issues with antenna. Then moved to 20m in the morning, now some 17m activity. Plan to be ready on Top-Band next night and also be ready for RTTY. Locals are very friendly and helpful. Everything is OK, except some minor sun burns got during antenna set-up and also problems with water supply.
Update Oct,14: SMS from Yuris: Power generator failed. They’re running on 15m band CW with 100W. That was the maximum power that the generator could handle. In the evening after 6 PM (local time, which is GMT+1) hopefully they will have mains voltage again. Good news – they got some tap water. Sun is frying. Soonest upload to Club Log could happen when they come back ti Annobon. There is no internet on the island. There are bigger challenges than internet. For example – electricity and water!
Update Oct,13: 3C0L hit the airwaves on 14029 kHz. Yuris sent SMS saying that mains voltage varies between 130-180 V and transceiver often switches off. That caused a messy start (pauses, jumping to RX frequency with TX and doing simplex for short time) and probably also explains distorted signal tone time to time. Thus, they can’t run full power. Also, as soon as they put up vertical, some local people approached them and asked to pay..
Update Oct,12: Short text message from Yuris says that they are on Annobon. Their passports were taken away. Tomorrow is a national holiday and the governor is not speaking to them. Sounds like some additional permission is needed locally. QTH is OK, but could be more space for antennas. In the best case they will be on the air on Friday 13th
Update Oct,11: On October 9 (evening) 3C1L was activated from the hotel in downtown Malabo using a simple vertical antenna. By the morning of October 10 the first 500+ QSOs are in the log. Later, on October 10, they packed hardware and went to the airport to catch the scheduled flight to Annobon. But due to stormy weather the flight to Annobon was postponed to October 11 morning. Tickets are in pockets. So on October 11 early morning they will fly to Annobon and continue from there as 3C0L. Further plans are not known yet.
Yuris/YL2GM and Kaspars/YL3AIW plan to be on the air from Annobon as 3C0L and Equatorial Guinea as 3C1L in October 2017.
