Information

Update April 28, 2026:  We’ve had several reports of Pirate operations over the last 2 days. We upload logs twice a day like clockwork - you might want to work us again if you don’t show up in the log. Also, seeing lots of false spots on DX Summit 🤷‍♂️ come on guys……

Update April 26, 2026: Dave will be on 1.821 CW tonight at NA sunrise. Team has a radio in beacon mode on 50.313. Spots seen on PSK reporter in W6, VK3, & SA. At least 6 QSOs in the log on 6.

Logs uploaded to ClubLog about 0830Z. Dave has built an antenna for 80. Is having enough success now on 160 and 80 that he plans to stay on those bands each night. I worked him on 160 this morning at 11:24Z from home in Oklahoma. Good sigs. Lots of technical issues, broken radios, broken amps, etc. Condx generally poor in local mornings…

Jeff – K5WE

   Update April 24, 2026:  1#
We had a challenging day at TX9W. Power surges and an overabundance of stray RF has blown the KIO3 boards in BOTH K3s. We’ve had to change software release versions on WSJTx, MSHV AND N1MM to make anything work. Almost one year of preparation seemingly didn’t  buy us much 🤷‍♂️. From the team: thank you for your continued patience - we are sorry

2#
We will install the 60 m vertical in the morning with the intention of running 60 m tomorrow evening and night as well as another scheduled time of 160 m operation. After tomorrow night, we will convert WD5COV’s Top Band Express to 80 m and leave it on 80 for the rest of the trip. We are giving Europe and northern Europe a lot of attention on this DXpedition 👍.

We are trying ! The focus will be a lot more CW for the rest of the trip but we will always have at least one station running FT8 Nice to hear from you !

Craig - W5CCP / TX9W

Update April 23, 2026:  Dave reports improved condx on 160 last night. Made about 35 QSOs. TNX everyone for your patience & the QSOs. Will be on 160 again tonight. Also plans to install the 60 meter vertical today and be QRV on 60 meters tonight

Update April 22, 2026:  We are working hard on our logging issues and will cease using LiveStream, reverting to daily updates. The problems are on our end, obviously, and we are working hard to fix them. See our DXped website for more info - we apologize for the issues, but we have many more days of operation.

Update April 21, 2026: I just returned from a follow up visit to the Doctor. He quite adamantly stated that I should NOT travel and I should give this condition time to heal and stabilize. I’m very disappointed. I will not be joining the TX9W team on Hiva Oa. I’ll be available as a pilot station to pass information from you to the team. Email me at the address on the Contact Page. Tnx…

73, Jeff – K5WE

Update April 19, 2026:  Team Leader Jeff, K5WE, had an allergic reaction to something last nite - his tongue swelled up and he was starting to have trouble breathing.
So the rest of the team went to the airport and he went to the hospital.
Hopefully he will join us on Monday.  4 team members are currently sitting on the tarmac in San Fran waiting to takeoff for Tahiti !  Dave, WD5COV, is bringing his famous TopBand Express for 160 and 80m, the low band antenna used by the Clipperton team, TX5S.  This is gonna be interesting!

Update April 7, 2026: Eleven days until departure. We estimate extra baggage charges for the two airlines in excess of 13,000 USDs. Any help from the DX community is appreciated. https://k5we.com/tx9w/ . Hope to be QRV from Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands on 19 April. Team Marquesas – TX9W…
– Jeff, K5WE

Update March 6, 2026: I am happy to announce that the TX9W DXpedition has acquired a Starlink Mini system. This should significantly enhance our internet connectivity. We have configured software on all our laptops for near real time uploading of log data to ClubLog Livestream…

CU soon from Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands – Jeff, K5WE

Update February 20, 2026:  Preparations are moving along toward our April 18th departure date. A new Buddihex hexbeam has been acquired. We have also purchased an additional amplifier, an Acom 700s, bringing our total number of amps to 6, three kilowatt plus and three more 500 watt plus. Antennas have been prepared and tested. Dave is bringing his Top Band Express antenna for
160 and 80. We hope to make a good number of QSOs on 160 & 80. We are planning a system of triplexer and band pass filters to minimize interstation interference.

Our priority will be putting QSOs in the log, with a good mix of Digital, CW, and SSB. We will look for Europe when propagation permits as the need for Marquesas is greatest in Europe.

Our additional baggage expense will be excessive. Any donations to help with that expense will be welcomed and appreciated. https://k5we.com/tx9w/

Hope to CU soon from TX9W… Team Marquesas…

A team of 6 operators, four from the Oklahoma DX Assn (OKDXA), one from New Mexico and one from France (Jeff/K5WE, Craig/W5CCP, Dave/WD5COV, Jeremy/N5TEA, Bob/K4VBM and Didier/F6BCW), will be active as TX9W from the village of Atuona on the Island of Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands, on April 19-30, 2026. They will operate all bands 160 through 6 meters using the CW, FT8, FT4, SSB, and RTTY modes. The Grid Square is CI00LE, IOTA # is OC-027, CQ Zone is 31, and the ITU Zone is 63. Depending upon a reliable internet connection, logs will be uploaded to ClubLog daily and ClubLog Livestream will be active. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW upon returning home. Periodic updates will occur on their Web page
Currently, the Marquesas Islands entity is number 63 world-wide and number 43 in Europe on the ClubLog most wanted list…

TX9W Operating Modes and Frequencies

TX9W will operate at or near these frequencies, subject to QRM or local QRN. We will emphasize CW and FT8, some SSB, RTTY, FT4 may be attempted. CW, SSB, RTTY operation will be split, listening up. FT8 on the DXpedition frequencies will be multi stream mode. We may attempt some SuperFox mode. Depending upon the size of the pileups, we may operate single stream
normal mode on the standard FT8 frequencies. There will be no unattended digital operation. We will occasionally operate on the US General Class frequencies.
