Update November 18, 2025: Our latest ClubLog upload puts us at just over 165,000 QSOs with two days remaining in our operation. We are hoping these last two days we can reach 175K before we QRT.
For our next two nights, we will be focusing on low bands, operating FT8 on 160 and 80 on the normal frequencies.
Yesterday was a problem throughout the day with loss of commercial power and already this morning. We have lost power for a brief time.. as a reminder, if we suddenly disappear on phone and SSB, it is likely that we have lost our electrical power. QRX and we may be back soon or we may be back later.
The eight remaining team members are all doing well. The staff here at our hotel QTH has treated us well. But we are all anxious to get back home here in the next few days..
Again, thanks to the DX community for your support and for all the contacts!

Update November 17, 2025: We will see with our next log upload to ClubLog if we pass the 160K mark.Yesterday, a sustained commercial electric power outage of about 5.5 hours kept our phone and CW stations QRT. Power reliability to these stations continues to plague us and I estimate we have lost at least 1.5 CW/SSB operating days from these sudden disruptions. These power outages also affect our 80m and 160m capabilities as we use these same stations at night for low band operation. Thankfully, with the Digital stations running FT8 snd FT4 continue being on generator power.
The past 2 nights have been fruitful on the low bands. We worked many JA stations on 160m and 80m has had good condx to NA as well. Unfortunately, 6m has been disappointing with no openings the past few days. We have a dedicated station on 6m and watch continuously while we beacon “CQ” 24-7 turning the 7-el. Yagi to expected paths during the day.
We will continue full operation here from 9U1RU for 2 more days and will begin some take down on Wednesday and concluding our operations on Thursday. So if you need 9U1RU in your log, time is running out.
The team is very grateful to everyone who has worked us… Thank you for the great pileups and QSOs! We look forward to telling our story when we return home.

Update November 14, 2025: As most of you are probably aware, solar / geomagnetic condx the past couple of days have clobbered our operations. But please know in addition to the negative solar and auroral disturbances, we have also dealt with some fairly extreme weather here on this mountainside QTH that don’t help our “cause” as well. I believe this storm lasted over an hour and was the worst one we’ve had. We ultimately lost our commercial electric power.

Update November 10, 2025: Two of our 10 operators have returned home due to personal and work obligations leaving eight operators to continue on for next 10 days.
We crossed the halfway point of the DXpedition last night and with the ClubLog upload made by team leader Vasily, R7AL, 9U1RU now shows just over 102K QSOs in the log.
Update November 2, 2025: "Apparently someone is pirating our 9U1RU callsign on QO-100 satellite.
For our friends in the Eastern hemisphere who operate QO-100, please know that we have NO plans to operate QO-100 during the DXpedition and if you see 9U1RU or, you have worked 9U1RU on this mode, it is a pirate operation. Thank you!"
Update October 31, 2025: Currently running with 2 stations on the air..more to follow. We have 2 Spiderbeams erected and 3 verticals, including a 22meter Spiderbeam vertical for 160m that we will look to have QRV tonight.
Update October 30, 2025: After a delay because of customs, they collected everythning and went to their QTH. During the night a 40m vertical was assembled to test band conditions and 9U1RU became QRV.
Update October 30, 2025: They arrived in Burundi yesterday, however currently all equipment and personal belongings have been retained by customs. They hope for a resolution later today, especially since all paperwork is in order.
Update September 11, 2025: This reminder that in less than two months, an international 11 member team of experienced operators will be leaving for their 20-day on-the-air DXpedition to Burundi as 9U1RU. The team will arrive in Burundi on October 30th and tentative plans call for stations being QRV on October 31 until November 20.
Coordinated by the Russian DX Team (RUDXT) and led by Vasily R7AL, this DXpedition holds promise to be as successful as many previous RUDXT DXpeditions to Africa and the Pacific.
Burundi is currently #60 on ClubLog's Most Wanted List. Vasily says the team's goal is to work as many stations as possible while paying special attention to those DX regions of the world and bands where 9U poses the biggest challenges while also providing 9U to "little pistol" operators as well.
Presently, the team is busy finalizing operating plans and equipment inventory required to maintain operation of 7 simultaneous QRO stations located at two separate operating sites. Logistically, this approach presents several challenges with planned operations on all bands, 6m to 160m forthcoming.
At this time the 9U1RU team wishes to acknowledge and express its sincerest, "'Thank you" to DX Engineering for graciously providing an ICOM IC-7610 that will serve as the primary SSB station and perhaps see use on 6m EME (TBD) as well. We appreciate Tim, K3LR and the folks at DXE for their generosity and support of this DXpedition and are proud to have DX Engineering onboard with us a major sponsor!
We also wish to express our gratitude to Expert Electronics and SunSDR for donating a SunSDR2 DX XCVR and welcome them as a corporate sponsor of 9U1RU project.
Obviously the 9U1RU DXpedition is a costly endeavor and the 9U1RU team welcomes and appreciates any support of this project at any level. Please check our 9U1RU website for more details and how you can help with this DXpedition.
