Information

Update June 16, 2026: Operation postponed again. He might be QRV sometime in the first quarter of 2027.

Update March 16, 2026:  Gavin, ZL3GAV, who was expected to be active last year but had to postponed, has now posted that he will be active as E6SP sometime in July (now confirmed). He states, "The focus for the next visit will include 6m with 4 element beam, and more low band operation with antennas for 80/160m as well as satellite operation..... SSB, CW, Digital, SSTV and Satellite."

QSL via EA5GL, LoTW, QRZ.com and ClubLog.

Look for details to be updated in early April.

Update October 9, 2025, by Gavin, ZL3GAV: "DXpedition is now postponed to early 2026, logistically I could not resolve what was required.

The focus for the next visit will include 6m with 4 element beam, and more low band operation with antennas for 80/160m as well as satellite operation.

Will update (on QRZ.com) when plans are finalized."

Update February 25, 2025:    "DXpedition is now re-scheduled for August 2025 due to accommodation issues. We need to ensure we operate from the same QTH as 2024 that ensures a zero noise floor. Other DXers visiting Niue have had major noise problems that has spoiled the experience for everyone."

Update January 14, 2025:  Galvin, ZL3GAV, informs:

"DXpedition is now scheduled for May/June 2025.

Further specific information, bandplan etc. will be confirmed by 1st, March 2025.

All modes CW, Voice and Digital.

Antennas acquired from 160m to 6m, and satellite operation.

LoTW is same day, at no cost. I am not looking for HAM's to fund my holiday/hobby enjoyment.

If a physical QSL is card required, see via Pedro EA5GL. (see below)

Will livestream on ClubLog; should be reliable as will be using portable Starlink for internet.

Special requests, let me know."

--------
QSL/Logging (per Galvin): Logging is using Log4OM.

I should have stable internet so will livestream see here on ClubLog and upload to ClubLog, QRZ.com, in real time, and update to LoTW daily. Preferred verification is via LoTW.

I do not require QSL cards. Pedro, EA5GL, who is a specialised QSL Manager, see here will manage all QSL card requests separately, so card enquiries to Pedro only. (Please do not send cards to my address). QSL card requests will be processed following completion of the operation.

Update November 3, 2024: Unfortunately, with the demise of Greencube there seems little advantage in working satellite activity? I will concentrate on HF and 6m. The plan is to have multiple antennas, upgrade of Chameleon MPAS2 I used in Niue this year, or possibly a DX Commander DXpedition and a EFHW that does 160m adequately.

Update July 22, 2024: 2025 E6SP operation confirmed: I will return to Niue for 3 weeks in April 2025, running a more advanced mini expedition. Extra antennas/radios including 6m and satellite operation, focus on IO117 Greencube (if still working) and other available satellites: linear/FM. More details will be advised when planning is advanced.

Update April 28, 2024: E6SP Niue has gone QRT, a little earlier than anticipated. Will report later on circumstances via QRZ tomorrow.

It has been amazing for a single operator non sponsored activity, learnt a great deal, had incredible DX contacts. Thank you.

All QSO’s are uploaded to QRZ, ClubLog, LoTW. Am back here early 2025.

Update April 26, 2024: Gavin, E6SP will go QRT at 20.00z on Monday 29th April. Earlier today (26th) after an abrupt halt due to a computer crash, circa 100 QSO’s were recovered, and his logbook & LoTW, ClubLog; including Livestream, QRZ etc all in sync again. Gavin says the internet is “spotty” but workable.

Update April 16, 2024: Gavin arrived in Niue and picked up the license. He expects to start the activity around 0300z tomorrow.

ZL3GAV Gavin will be operating as E6SP in Niue 16 April 2024 to 28 April 2024.

Operation is just me, holiday style but expect to be active.

Antenna being used is Chameleon MPAS2 vertical portable.

Radio is Yaesu FT-DX10 maximum 100 watts all modes. On Digital modes software is JTDX and WSJTx for Fox Hound activity. (Bandplan to follow...)  Logging is using Log4OM.

Main operating modes will be digital FT8/FT4 with focus on 15m and 10m. From 40m and below antenna is compromised.

SSB is simplex, if gets busy I will listen 5-10 up.

VarAC will be used on experimental basis depending on demand/interest.

With SSTV will also assess activity levels as to interest.

My objective is to work DXCC and verify on LoTW on 10m digital.

I should have stable internet so will Livestream see here on ClubLog and upload to ClubLog. QRZ.com in real time, and LoTW at least 4 times daily.  (No eQSL) Preferred verification is LoTW.

Sorry no paper QSL's or bureau, when I get back to New Zealand I don't have the time for the admin overhead with this. Postage costs ex NZ are ridiculous.

I had contemplated satellite operation, luggage limits and pacticality prevails; maybe next time (-:
