Update July 26: CANCELLED: By Team Leader, CN8QY
I would like to thank my team, which was about to board the plane, as well as the many lost funds worth more than €5000 (including the price of tickets). I would also like to express my deep sympathy to all those who contributed to the success of this DXpedition.
Among the reasons why this mission is cancelled – despite the availability of the license – comes as follows:
1- Island is a common property that takes over land and sea authorities.
2- The problem that led to this mission was a security and administrative problem.
For these reasons, this mission is postponed for 9 months.
Thank you for your understanding, and to meet with you.
Update June 7: 5C9A team leader Mounaim, CN8QY is visiting the Tibouda region today and meeting locals prior to the expedition. He expects to get a boat out to the island tomorrow. He will not be QRV then, only a recon trip.
Update Feb 8: The website for the DXpedition to Los Farallones (AF-118, new one for IOTA) [425DXN 1448] is up and running at https://5c9a.com/. A multi-national team (CN8QY, CN8CE, CN8HDZ, CN8PA, CN8RAH, IK2PZC, IZ7ATN, I8LWL, MM0NDX and maybe one or two more operators) will be active as 5C9A on 25-30 July, IOTA Contest included. They hope to have up to three stations QRV simultaneously at any given time. QSL via I8LWL
Last year plans to activate Los Farallones Island, AF-118NEW were announced. A few weeks later it transpired that Navy and Government permission had not been given therefore that particular expedition was postponed. This year a new expedition to AF-118 has been announced with planning behind the scenes ongoing. A team is assembled with CN8QY as leader. Planned dates of activity are July 25-30, 2019. Updates to follow on DX-World
