Castle of Cardona

Castle of Cardona
Picture of a patio taken in/from the castle of Cardona (Catalonia / Spain)
Date: Sep-2004
Camera: Minolta Dimage-XT
Comments: The church of Saint Vicente de Cardona is located in one of the patios of the castle and is one of the most important monuments of the Catalonian romanesque of the XI century, built in 1040. It has 3 aisles with an apse in each one of them, and a transept hardly noticeable from outside. Above the transept there is a dome held by horns. The most noticeable is the crypt, below the apse of the central aisle and of its same size, that is divided by two rows of columns splitting in three aisles covered by arris vaults. This church holds the tombs of the Cardona´s family.
